Robert de Vere, 6th Earl of Oxford (* around June 24, 1257 , † April 17, 1331 ) was an English magnate .

Life

Robert de Vere came from the Anglo-Norman de Vere family , who had their headquarters in Hedingham , Essex . He was the son and heir of Robert de Vere, 5th Earl of Oxford from his marriage to Alice de Sanford. In 1296 he inherited the estates of the de Vere family and the title of Earl of Oxford . The office of Chamberlain of England , which was actually inherited in the family , was withheld from him after it had been withdrawn from his father; only his successor got it back. Although the de Vere family was an old and respected family of the Anglo-Norman aristocracy, compared to other magnates they only owned relatively modest estates.

Robert took part in the campaigns of Edward I , Edward II and Edward III. participated in Wales, Scotland and France. His coat of arms is included in the Falkirk Roll , which was created on the occasion of the Battle of Falkirk on July 22, 1298. In 1308 he took part in the coronation of Queen Isabella , the wife of Edward II.

Robert de Vere was married to Margaret Mortimer, daughter of Roger Mortimer of Wigmore and Maud de Briouze (Braose). Your children are:

Robert de Vere died on April 17, 1331, he was buried in the family priory of Earls Colne in Essex . Since he survived his only son, his nephew John de Vere, 7th Earl of Oxford , the only son of his brother Alphonse de Vere, inherited him as Earl of Oxford.
