After completing his studies, he joined his father's cloth factory, Narva-Tuchmanufaktur AG, in Narva, where he took over production management and later became the majority shareholder. He built a canal from Konsu Lake to the Mustajogi River. Peltzer was the last lord of Gut Kurtna. For many years he was the French consul in Narva.
