Roberto Hodge Rivera (born July 30, 1944 in La Serena , Coquimbo ; † November 30, 1984 ), also known by the nickname El Negro ( The Black ), was a Chilean football player who mainly played in midfield . Hodge died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 40 .
career
societies
Hodge spent his first professional years at CF Universidad de Chile , with which he won the Chilean football championship five times . After almost a decade, he moved to Mexico , where he won the Mexican football championship with Club América in his first season in 1970/71 . After four years at Club America, with which he was able to celebrate the cup victory immediately before leaving in 1974 , he still played for the Mexican clubs UANL Tigres and UAG Tecos . In 1977 he returned to Chile and won the Chilean cup competition that same year with the CD Palestino . Hodge spent the next three years with the CD Aviación before ending his career in 1981 with the CD Cobresal .
National team
Between 1964 and 1977 Hodge came to a total of 38 missions for the Chilean national team . He scored his only international goal in a friendly against Hungary on December 13, 1967 . At the soccer World Cup in 1966 he was part of the Chilean World Cup squad , but was not used.
