Roberto Martínez Lacayo

Roberto Martínez Lacayo (born December 18, 1899 - February 16, 1984 in Managua ) was Minister of Defense of Nicaragua from 1970 to May 1, 1974 .

Life

Roberto Martínez Lacayo was married to Dolores Abaunza Espinoza. His son was Roberto Martínez Abaúnza. Roberto Martínez Lacayo was a member of the Partido Liberal Nacionalista and the Guardia Nacional de Nicaragua . He had been a confidante of Anastasio Somoza García since 1936 and was informed in advance of his coup plans against Juan Bautista Sacasa .

In 1956, Roberto Martínez Lacayo was commander-in-chief of the Nicaraguan army when the Somoza clan changed generations . 1972 Roberto Martínez Lacayo was Minister of Defense; in the Guardia Nacional he had reached the rank of general.

From May 1, 1974 to December 1, 1974 Roberto Martínez Lacayo and Alfonso Lovo Cordero were members of a government junta, which successively included the members of the Partido Conservador Republicano Fernando Bernabé Agüero Rocha and Edmundo Paguaga Irías .
