Robin Kähler

Robin Kähler (born June 23, 1946 in Weinheim ) is a German sports scientist and university professor .

Life

Kähler went to school from 1952 to 1957 in his native Weinheim, from 1957 to 1961 in Bielefeld and from 1961 to 1966 at the Louisenlund high school in Schleswig-Holstein . After his military service in 1967 and 1968, he began studying sports science, history, psychology and educational science for a higher teaching post at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster in 1969 . In 1974 he passed the first state examination. From 1971 to 1973 he worked as a physical education teacher, in 1974 and 1975 he taught at the Greven grammar school , completed his legal clerkship in 1975 and 1976 and passed his second state examination in July 1976.

From April 1975 to July 1977 Kähler held lectureships for the sport of tennis at the Institute for Sport and Sport Science at the University of Münster and at the University of Osnabrück , and from August 1976 to July 1978 he worked as a teacher in Warendorf . In 1978 Kähler started a position as a research assistant at the University of Osnabrück / Vechta, which he held until November 1981. From December 1981 to September 1987 he was an academic advisor at the Institute for Sports Science at the Technical University of Braunschweig and during this time, namely in April 1985, he completed his doctoral thesis at the University of Osnabrück with the title “Moral Education in Physical Education: Examination of the Standard Practice and the Rule awareness ”.

Between 1987 and 2000 Kähler was Academic Director of the Institute for Sport at the University of Mannheim , during this time he also held teaching positions at the Chair of Sport Education at the University of Augsburg (1989/1990), at the Chair for Educational Science II Business Education at the University of Mannheim (1994-1999) and on Institute for Sports Science at Heidelberg University (1999).

In December 2000 he took up the post of senior academic director of the sports center at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU), which he held until October 2011. In March 2008 he was appointed adjunct professor. In addition, from 2001 to 2012, Kähler was head of the department of sports economics / sports sociology at the CAU, where he established the chair for sports economics and sports sociology.

Kähler has been a member of the German Association for Sports Science (DVS) since 1979 , and in 2017 he was awarded the Golden Badge of Honor by the DVS. In the early 1980s, Kähler was instrumental in founding the DVS commission for tennis and later the commission for young sport scientists. He was spokesman for the DVS Sport and Space Commission and sat on the scientific advisory board in the research project of the Federal Institute for Sport Science (BISp) and on the advisory board for sports economics at the Federal Ministry of Economics (BMWi). He also worked as an expert in sports development planning.

Kähler's main research interests include sports development planning at the municipal and regional level, the subjects of sports facilities, sports organization, economic aspects of sports, fitness and health sports, and human resource development through sports.
