The Rocca Islands ( French Rocher Rocca ) are a group of small islands in the archipelago of the Adelaide and Biscoe Islands off the west coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . They are located 5 km east of Avian Island off the southern end of Adelaide Island .
Participants of the Fifth French Antarctic Expedition (1908-1910) under the direction of polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot discovered them in 1909. Charcot named them after a Monsieur Rocca, member of the French community in Punta Arenas . The Royal Navy Hydrographic Unit re-mapped the islands in 1963.
