Rocco Abate

Rocco Abate (born July 20, 1950 in Oriolo , Province of Cosenza , Calabria , Italy ) is an Italian flautist , music teacher and composer .

Life

Rocco Abate went to Milan in 1964 after finishing school . Here he visits the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi . He studied with Cilliberti, Bruno Martinotti (1936–1986), Turriani, Soresina and Bruno Bettinelli . He graduated in 1972 in flute, 1974 in instrumentation for banda and 1979 in composition. During his studies he played mostly with fellow students and in the orchestra of the conservatory, but was soon engaged by the Milanese Orchestra i Pomeriggi Musicali . This was followed by further engagements with various orchestras such as the Orchestra Dell'Angelicum Di Milano, the Orchestra sinfonica della RAI di Milano and the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana. He has worked with many renowned conductors such as Claudio Abbado , Georges Prêtre , Carlos Kleiber , Wolfgang Sawallisch and Giuseppe Patanè . As a soloist he showed a lively concert activity. He played over 70 concerts in the United States. In 1982 he attended a master composition course with Franco Donatoni at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena. He attends other courses and seminars with Salvatore Sciarrino , Brian Ferneyhough , Elliott Carter , Hugues Dufourt (* 1943), Hans Werner Henze , Gérard Grisey , Emmanuel Nunes (1941–2012), Tristan Murail and Karlheinz Stockhausen . He was a co-founder of the I Dieci Fiati Italiani and a member of the Gruppo Musica Insieme di Cremona. He also gave concerts with the duet partners Delia Pizzardi, Attilio Martignoni and Luigi Zanardi as well as chamber music with the Quartetto Telemann and the Quintetto Vie Nuove . In 1974 he was employed as a flute professor at the Conservatorio Peri-Merulo , today's Istituto superiore di studi musicali in Reggio Emilia . He received a one-year contract at the Rovigo Conservatory . He then went to the Cosenza Conservatory until 1976 . After his military service he went to the Conservatory in Verona in 1977 and was later transferred to the Conservatory "Giuseppe Nicolini" in Piacenza . In 1990 he was offered the chair for flute at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan. In 2004 he was elected a member of the Academic Council of the Conservatory.

A few years ago he designed a musical experimentation course for third grade children. For this he developed, among other things, a musical writing system that allows students to independently write an Operina musicale .

  • Sol'o for eight instruments, 1978, recorded by the Logos Ensemble and released as an LP on the Edipan label
  • Six bagatelles for string trio ( OCLC 725509194 ). It was commissioned by the Angelicum in Milan, where it was premiered in 1975 under the direction of Umberto Benedetti Michelangeli (* 1952). Another performance followed at the Teatro La Fenice under the direction of Giampiero Taverna.
