The Rochuskapelle in Ahrbrück (district Ahrbrück), a local community in the district of Ahrweiler in northern Rhineland-Palatinate , is a Catholic chapel from the 17th century. It is a protected cultural monument .

history

The St. Rochus Chapel was built in 1637, like several other chapels in the region, to thank for being spared the plague, which also occurred in the Ahr region during the Thirty Years' War. The chapel was located in the center of the former village, which was cleared in 1938 as part of the construction of the Ahrbrück air force training area . The chapel, profaned until the end of the war, served as an ammunition store and was therefore spared from demolition. After the Second World War, it was consecrated again as a church on the anniversary of St. Roch on August 16, 1952.

Furnishing

The single-nave quarry stone building with a retracted choir has a length of 9.50 m and a width of 4.50 m. It is crowned by a four-sided roof turret with an eight-sided helmet. The tuff altar probably dates from the 17th century. The crystal chandelier was donated in the 1950s by the local glass cutting company Adolf Pörner.
