etymology
The original name of the place in the 14th century was Blaketore , which was shortened to Black Rock in the 18th century and later to the current name.
geography
Rock lies on the east, right bank of the Camel River estuary . It is the westernmost of several places that have grown together over time. These are Pityme, Splatt, Penmayne, Stoptide and Porthilly.

Rock is accessible by road from St Minver. It ends at the pier of a ferry to Padstow that can be used by pedestrians and cyclists . The name of the ferry, Black Tor , is reminiscent of the old name of the place.
economy
Rock is the location of Sharp's Brewery . The place is a popular place for vacationers and water sports enthusiasts for sailing , windsurfing and water skiing . Since rock is also the destination of many wealthy and celebrities, it is known as "Britain's Saint-Tropez " or the " Kensington of Cornwall".
