Rockolding is a district of the town of Vohburg an der Donau in the Upper Bavarian district of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm .

geography

The parish village located on the northern border of the district Pfaffenhofen , about 17 kilometers down the Danube from Ingolstadt between Münchsmünster and Ensgaden. Rockolding is about four kilometers southwest of Vohburg an der Donau .

history

Rockolding was first mentioned in a document in 821. The essentially Romanesque branch church of St. Martin in Rockolding belongs to the parish of St. Ottilia in Irsching . The municipality , founded in 1818 by the Bavarian municipal edict, was incorporated into Vohburg an der Donau with the territorial reform in 1978.

Economy, education and transport

Vohburg station is on the Regensburg – Ingolstadt railway line on the southern edge of the Rockolding district. This used to be very popular for loading sugar beets.

The biggest accident to date on this route occurred near Rockolding on December 19, 1969, when the 7672 freight train from Regensburg Rbf to Vohburg rammed a tanker truck loaded with petrol at a level crossing whose barriers were not closed. The train pulled by a V 90 also consisted of tank cars with gasoline and heating oil; there was a big explosion. The train driver was able to save himself, the truck driver burned to death, trapped in his cab. The Höfartsmühle to the southeast also belongs to Rockolding. The first mention goes back to the 14th century . The wood pulp mill stopped production in the early 1990s. The newly designated building area is very popular, so that the population of Rockolding is steadily increasing.

Education and culture

The children from Rockolding went to the local school from 1928 to 1970. Since then, the old schoolhouse has been used as a kindergarten.

A total of eight clubs were founded in Rockolding. The oldest club is the shooting club "Einigkeit" from 1892. Otherwise you can spend your free time by membership in the volunteer fire brigade Rockolding, the warrior and comrade club, FC Rockolding, the fishing club "Wellenbachfischer 1962 eV" and small animal breeding club as well as for the seniors Spend senior club. The Rockolding Choral Society was dissolved in early 2006.
