Roderich Dietze

Eduard Roderich Dietze (born March 1, 1909 in Glasgow ; † May 25, 1960 in Bühlertal ) was a German sports reporter and table tennis player .

Life

Dietze was the son of a foreign merchant Roderich AE Dietze and Elisabeth Smith who worked in Scotland. In 1914 the family moved to Germany. From 1932 Dietze worked as a radio reporter. Before the Second World War , he commented on events in the fields of equestrian sports, motor sports, tennis and table tennis. Under the direction of Bernhard Ernst he worked in a team with Paul Laven and Rolf Wernicke . At the 1936 Summer Olympics , the English radio hired him as chief spokesman.

After the Second World War he took part in the technical development of television. Most recently he was chief reporter for Südwestfunk .

Table tennis

Dietze actively played table tennis for the TTC Gelb-Weiß Berlin club , with whom he became German team champion in 1933/34. At the international German championships in 1936/37 he reached fourth place in doubles with Rudi Schwager . Several times he was used in the national team. After the Second World War he took on duties as a functionary. So he was sports manager in the table tennis association Lower Saxony and from 1950 to 1951 press officer of the German table tennis association DTTB . He designed the Dietze couple cross system , which was named after him. In the early 1950s he was with the men's team of SC Baden-Baden Südbadischer Cup champion.

Private

Dietze had been married to the art historian and fashion journalist Edith ter Meer (1904–1993), the daughter of the famous taxidermist Herman H. ter Meer , since 1939 . The marriage remained childless.
