Rodolfo Martín Arruabarrena (born July 20, 1975 in Marcos Paz ) an Argentine soccer coach and former soccer player . He has Argentinian and Spanish citizenship.

Club career

Early career

Arruabarrena had his first professional appearance in 1993 with the Boca Juniors , where he played until 2000, with the exception of a break of 6 months at 1996 Rosario Central. With the Boca Juniors he won the Apertura in 1998 and the Clausura in the Argentine Primera División in 1999 and the Copa Libertadores in 2000 . In total he ran 178 times for the Boca Juniors and scored 11 goals.

Villarreal

For the 2000/01 season Arruabarrena moved to the Spanish first division club Villarreal . Because of his reliability as a defender, he ran in some games as team captain . With his goals in the 2005/06 UEFA Champions League at Glasgow Rangers and Inter Milan , he secured Villarreal the first semi-finals in the club's history. He won the UI Cup with Villarreal in 2003 and 2004 and played over 200 matches for the team.

AEK Athens

On May 3, 2007 Arruabarrena signed a 3 year contract with AEK Athens .

CA Tigre

After only one season in Athens, he moved back to CA Tigre . For Tigre, Arruabarrena made 69 games and scored 2 goals.

CD Universidad Católica

The last stop in Rodolfo Arruabarrena's career was CD Universidad Católica , where he signed a one-year contract. With Católica he won the Chilean football championship .

National team

Arruabarrena played 4 games for the Argentine national football team from 1994 to 2000 . Before that, he played in various Argentine youth national teams. After a friendly game in 2000, Arruabarrena was no longer appointed to the national team until September 2006. In 2006 and 2007 he was used in the friendlies against Spain and France .

Coaching career

For the 2010/11 season Arruabarrena was the new coach of CA Tigre . From March 28, 2013 he took over the sporting management of the Uruguayan major club Nacional Montevideo as the responsible head coach with the coaching team consisting of assistant coach Diego Markic , Gustavo Roberti and goalkeeping coach Fernando Gayoso . On December 15, 2013, he resigned from his position with the Montevideans. He later coached the Boca Juniors and was released from his duties there at the end of February 2016. He then trained for two years al-Wasl in the United Arab Emirates, before he was briefly head coach of the Qatari al-Rayyan SC .
