biography

society

Rodrigo Ruiz began his active career in 1938 in the service of his home club Atlas Guadalajara and was soon called up to the Jalisco national team to play in the Primera Fuerza , the forerunner of the Primera División . When the professional league was introduced in 1943/44, Ruiz completed his first professional year in the service of Club Atlas, but was poached by the capital club Asturias in 1944 . He did not stay there long, however, because Jalisco's governor at the time campaigned personally for his return to Guadalajara. Soon he joined the Deportivo Guadalajara , in whose ranks he developed into a national player. Later Ruiz was still under contract with the then third professional club in the city, Club Oro , before ending his active career in 1954 with Deportivo Toluca FC .

National team

Ruiz made his debut in the Mexican national team on July 13, 1947 in a game against arch rivals USA, which was won 5-0 and in which he succeeded (with a penalty to 4-0 in the 78th minute) his only international goal.

He was also part of the Mexican World Cup squad in 1950 and was the first player in the history of Chivas Guadalajara to play for a World Cup; because he played the first round game of "el Tri" against hosts Brazil (0: 4) and also played the second round game against Yugoslavia (1: 4), which was also his last international match.
