The Roedern School at Roedernstrasse 69-72 in the Berlin district of Alt-Hohenschönhausen was built in 1912/1913 as a community dual school. After several name changes, it has been the Obersee Primary School since the late 1990s .

history

On behalf of the Hohenschönhausen municipal council, the architect Carl James Bühring designed a community school in 1911, which was called a dual school because of the mandatory separation between girls and boys . The groundbreaking ceremony took place in 1912 , and the future school area is shown as a construction site in the address book of the same year . In 1913, not yet completely finished, the representatives of the municipal office inaugurated the school building as the 1st community school . In 1921 the name was changed to 9th community school in Weißensee and in 1927 to 9th elementary school in Weißensee . After the end of the Second World War , a makeshift repair was carried out on the building, which had been damaged in the final battles, so that school operations with mixed classes could start again in July 1945. In 1947, the city district administration, to which the school was subordinate, separated the lessons into a boys 'and girls' school, which were operated as the 9th and 16th elementary school . After the girls' school was closed in 1955, the 9th elementary school in Weißensee was created out of both elementary schools . In 1959, to adapt to the school system of the GDR , the name was changed to 9th  Polytechnic Oberschule Weißensee . Around 1969 it was given the name "Nikolai Bersarin" high school . At the same time, a two-storey part of the building was added to expand the space. After the fall of the Wall , in 1991 the name was again changed to the 4th elementary school in Berlin-Hohenschönhausen , and in 1996 the teaching facility was named Obersee-Grundschule , which it has been using ever since.

In 1996/97 the gymnasium and in 2007 the roof were renovated. For a complete renovation and modernization of the school building in the years 2008–2011, lessons took place in replacement rooms. With the school year 2011 there was a festive reopening.

Name reference and location

The term Roedernschule , used since the 21st century, refers to the location in Roedernstrasse. Its name is derived from the politician Siegfried von Roedern , who was committed to the growth of the Hohenschönhausen community in the 19th century. The suffix "Nikolai Bersarin" (between 1969 and 1990) honored the first Soviet city commander . The name Obersee-Grundschule , which has been valid since 1996 , refers to the nearby Obersee .

The main entrance to the school is on the side facing away from the street. This school yard area borders on the cemeteries in Konrad-Wolf-Straße .

architecture

The part of the building from the time it was built is a plastered three-wing building on three floors with hipped gable roofs . The facade is decorated with terracotta in the neo-renaissance style in the north German style . The five-axis main building is set off on the third floor with a surrounding clinker cornice . Terracotta pilasters with figural and floral motifs adorn the facade on both sides . A row of skylights with similar decor and allegorical figures on the attic is particularly worth mentioning .
