VanVelzen (born March 20, 1978 in Delft , actually Roel van Velzen ) is a Dutch singer and songwriter .

biography

VanVelzen, who is only 1.50 m tall, sang in school bands during his school days. He composed his own pieces and wrote the annual school musical. During his studies music became more and more the center of his life. VanVelzen formed his own band , "the Goldfish".

In 2002 VanVelzen became part of the theater group Op Sterk Water , with whom he appeared twice at the Lowlands Festival . After university he joined the Crazy Pianos in Scheveningen , the Netherlands . During an appearance in the GelreDome , he met his manager, Ruud H. Vinke.

successes

His debut single Baby Get Higher was released in the Netherlands in 2006 and was able to establish itself as the most played single on radio in 2007. At the end of August 2008, the single was also released in Germany, where it was also very popular on radio stations.

In the same year, his debut album Unwind made it straight to number 1 in the Dutch album top 100 in the first week after its release . VanVelzen not only sings on stage, he also plays keyboard , guitar and drums. Various awards in the Netherlands and his highly acclaimed album "Unwind" brought him appearances in the opening act for Bon Jovi and Kelly Clarkson . On “ Queen's Day ” he played with his band on the Museumplein in Amsterdam in front of more than 100,000 people.

In 2009 he played as the opening act for Reamonn's "The Million Miles Tour" . Together with Armin van Buuren , he performed at the 2010 Buma Harpen Gala, at which A. van Buuren was awarded the “Gouden Harp award”.

Prizes and awards

  • Unwind received the TMF Award in the “Best Album” category.
  • With the band the Goldfish he won the 1999 Heineken Student Music Awards.
