Roeland Gehlen (* 1968 in Schinnen ) is a Dutch violinist and concert master .

Life

Roeland Gehlen studied violin with Nilla Pierrou at the Maastricht Conservatory and with André Gertler in Brussels. In 1987 he won second prize at the International Szymanowski Competition in Brussels and in 1989 first prize at the Nationaal Vioolconcours Oskar Back in Amsterdam. He also received a special award for the interpretation of a modern work at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam . In 1992 he was also awarded a special prize at the International Violin Competition "Rodolfo Lipizer Prize" in Gorizia, Italy. After his exams he went to Berlin, where he studied with Thomas Brandis at the Hochschule der Künste until his concert exam in 1995 . In 1993 he won second prize in the violin competition of the Ibolyka Gyarfas Foundation . In Maastricht he received the Henriëtte Hustinx Prize in 1994 .

From 1993 to 1997 he was first violinist in Dshamilja quartet. During this time he worked a. a. with Norbert Brainin ( Amadeus Quartet ) and Gerhard Schulz ( Alban Berg Quartet ). In addition, from 1993 to 1996 he was an assistant with the Berliner Philharmoniker . From 2000 to 2004 he was first concertmaster with the Bochum Symphony Orchestra . He then became first concertmaster with the Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra . In 2005 he founded the Suoni d'Arte ensemble with Franz Halász (guitar), Sophia Reuter (viola) and Débora Halász (piano / harpsichord) . He is currently a guest concertmaster with the Staatskapelle Berlin .

Concert tours have taken him through Europe and South America. Recordings were made with the BR and SWR .

Gehlen plays a violin made by Jean Baptiste Vuillaume . He is married to the German violinist and violist Sophia Reuter (* 1971).
