Roelf Heyen

Roelf Heyen (born December 12, 1938 in Emden , † June 5, 1975 in West Berlin ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

After attending school, Roelf Heyen became a carpenter and ship's carpenter . On the second path of education he acquired the university entrance qualification; then he studied politics and history at the Free University of Berlin .

Heyen joined the DGB in 1953 and the SPD in 1956. During his studies he was district secretary of the SPD in Berlin- Zehlendorf . After completing his studies he was editor-in-chief of the party newspaper Berlin Voice from 1963 to 1970 . He was also deputy chairman from 1963 to 1965 and chairman of the Berlin Young Socialists from 1965 to 1967 . He was also a member of the state executive committee of the Berlin SPD and since 1972 chairman of the SPD district association Berlin-Zehlendorf.

From 1969 until his death, Heyen was a member of the Bundestag as a Berlin MP . One focus of his work was intra-German relations , Berlin affairs and Berlin's relations with the federal government.

As early as 1970 Heyen had to have an artificial heart valve inserted because of a serious heart disease . He initially recovered, but then died at the age of only 36. He left behind his wife and a son. Peter Manning took over his Bundestag mandate .
