Daniel Bärholz

Daniel Bärholz (* 1641 in Elbing ; † 1688 ibid) was a German poet of the Baroque period and councilor in Elbing.

life and work

The son of an amber turner studied after attending grammar schools in Elbing , Stolp and Danzig at the universities of Königsberg , Wittenberg and Marburg .

Bärholz was a member of several poets' associations of his time: in 1666 he was accepted as a Philoclyte in the Elbe Swan Order of Johann Rist , in 1669 as the meek in Philipp von Zesen's German-minded cooperative . In 1670 Sigmund von Birken accepted him into the Pegnesian Flower Order in Nuremberg . Rist appointed him crowned poet in 1666 .

In 1670 Bärholz published Des Chariclyt's memorable wine month , a story about a meeting of friends in October on the Elbe . In 1674 he wrote one hundred Kling poems ( sonnets ) on birches for the Balthis , an eulogy of the Pegnitz shepherds from the North and Baltic Sea region .

Bärholz, who had been married to Regine Caspar since 1673, took part in a delegation to Sweden on behalf of the Elbing City Council from 1672 to 1673 , from 1677 he was appointed city secretarius of the city, and in 1685 he was elected councilor of Elbing. He died in his hometown in 1688.
