Roelof Houwink

Roelof Houwink (* 1897 in Meppel ; † 1988 ) was a Dutch polymer scientist .

Houwink studied botany at Delft University and received his Ph.D. in 1934. He had been with Philips since 1925 . While studying the rubber tree , his interest in rubber grew. From 1939 to 1956 he was director of the state rubber institute of the TNO in Delft . He also worked for the tire manufacturer Vredestein . From 1957 to 1962 he was director of the Reactor Centrum Nederland (RCN) in The Hague .

In retirement, he dealt with the entertaining, popular scientific presentation of scientific facts.

Together with Hermann F. Mark , the Mark-Houwink equation is named after him.
