Rogatka Lubelska (translated Lublin Customs House ) is a listed building in Radom in the Masovian Voivodeship in Poland . The former customs house was built in 1840 and converted into a public bath from 1922 to 1926 .

The building is located in today's city center on the main street Żeromskiego 56.

history

The first customs posts were located near the city gates of Miasto Kazimierz ( Kasimir's town) . As the city continued to grow, these were relocated. In 1824, five new gates were built on the city limits. Next to the gate on the road to Lublin , Stefan Baliński built the customs house in 1840 according to plans by the architect Henryk Marconi (1792–1863).

After Poland was rebuilt , the city architect Kazimierz Prokulski designed a spacious city bath. The front of the customs house was still used as an entrance. Since many buildings in the city center had neither showers nor bathtubs, it served as a bathhouse ( Polish : łaźnia) for the municipal baths (łaźni miejskiej) until the end of the 1970s .

In 1981/1982 the building was renovated and the bathing facilities removed. It has been under protection since 1983 and entered in the voivodeship's national register of monuments under number 213 / A / 83.

Since 1987 the building has been the seat of the “Łaźnia” - Radomski Klub Środowisk Twórczych i Galeria (“Bath House” - Radom Club of Creative Societies and Gallery) as a cultural center and art gallery .

description

The classicist-style customs house was a one-story building with three axes and a square floor plan. Shortened by two axes, it serves as a portico and entrance to the adjoining public bath in the modernist style . To the street front it is five-axis and two-story with a stepped ornamental gable. At the rear it is extended by a transverse building to which one-story side wings are attached. A semicircular bay forms the end, which is crowned by a round third floor with a dome.
