Roger Edward Reynolds

Roger Edward Reynolds (born June 4, 1936 in Denver , † September 24, 2014 in Mississauga ) was an American Medievalist .

Life

After graduating from high school in Denver, he received a scholarship to Harvard and earned his BA in 1958, which was followed by a law degree at the University of Chicago , which he finished in 1961 with the JD . He then returned to Harvard , where he was mainly influenced by Giles Constable . With a travel grant he was able to spend a year with the family researching manuscripts in the most important libraries in Europe. He then obtained his Ph. D. in 1968 and then received four job offers, on the advice of Constable he decided to go to Carleton University , where he was Assistant Professor (1968–1971), Associate Professor (1971–1977), and Professor of History (1977) taught. Then in 1977 he became a Fellow of the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies and Professor of the University of Toronto . His research focused on the history of liturgy and canon law of the Middle Ages and various aspects of codicology related to them . This included studies on the manuscripts in Benevento script, among which numerous liturgical codices have survived. He worked closely with Virginia Brown . After her untimely death in 2009, he was able to set up an “Archivum Scripturae Beneventanae” in the institute's library with her academic legacy. Since 1987 he was a member of the central management of the MGH .
