Roger Goody

Roger Sidney Goody FRS (born April 17, 1944 in Northampton ) is a British biochemist . From 1993 until his retirement in 2013 he was director of the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Physiology in Dortmund .

Life

Roger S. Goody studied chemistry at the University of Birmingham , England, where he received his PhD in 1968 . He then went to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City , NY, USA as a postdoctoral fellow for 2 years . In 1970 he joined the Max Planck Institute for Experimental Medicine in Göttingen as a research assistant . From 1972 to 1993 he was group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research , Heidelberg. In 1983 he completed his habilitation in the Department of Biochemistry / Biophysics at the University of Heidelberg and was appointed adjunct professor in 1990. In 1993 he followed a call to the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Physiology and became a scientific member of the Max Planck Society and Director of the Department of Physical Biochemistry. From 2004 to 2009 he also held the chair for biochemistry of macromolecular systems at the medical faculty in Bochum. In 2013 he retired from the MPI for Molecular Physiology.

From 2011 to 2013 and again since 2015 Goody is Vice President of the Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology , from 2013 to 2015 he was its President.

In May 2018 he was inducted into the Royal Society . He is married and has two children.
