Feldberg Foundation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Feldberg Foundation for anglo-german scientific exchange is a foundation that promotes scientific contacts between British and German researchers in the field of experimental medicine, especially physiology and pharmacology .

It was created by the pharmacologist Wilhelm Siegmund Feldberg . As a Jew , he had been dismissed from his position at the Physiological Institute of the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin in 1933 and emigrated to England. After the war, he brought his professorial remuneration and his pension, paid back by the State of Berlin, into the foundation, a total of £ 600,000. Since 1961, a British and a German scientist have been selected as award winners to give scientific lectures in the other country. The winners are selected by a panel of British and German academics and two Foundation trustees.

The foundation is subject to the supervision of Hamburg ; However, the foundation is based in London .
