The Max Planck Institute for Experimental Medicine (MPI EM) is a non-university research facility of the Max Planck Society based in Göttingen .

history

It was founded in 1947 as a medical research institute of the Kaiser Wilhelm Society . It has existed under its current name since 1965 and has been part of the Max Planck Society since 1948.

The work of the institute deals with basic medical research. Biochemical, molecular biological, cell biological, morphological, electrophysiological, genetic and behavioral methods are used. The main goal of this work is to understand basic molecular and cellular processes in the nervous system and their pathological disorders.
