Roger O. Hirson

Roger O. Hirson (born May 5, 1926 in New York City , † May 27, 2019 in New York City ) was an American screenplay and playwright . He was best known for the books of the Broadway musicals Pippin and Walking Happy . Pippin earned him a Tony Award nomination . He has also been involved in many anthological television series since the 1950s.

Life

Hirson served in the US Army in Europe during World War II. He completed an English degree from Yale University , which he completed with a bachelor's degree. Through his first wife Alice Hirson he came into contact with the television producer Robert Costello and began writing for anthological television series in the 1950s. From the 1960s he was mainly involved in various television films, occasionally also in feature films. He also turned to musicals. He last appeared as a screenwriter in 1991.

Hirson was married twice. The first marriage to actress Alice Hirson ended in divorce. His second wife died in 2007. He was the father of two children.

Roger Hirson is divorced from Alice Hirson and has two sons: David, who writes plays, and Christopher Hirson, a jazz musician.
