Roger Pinoteau (born April 2, 1910 in Reuilly , Département Indre , † October 13, 1986 in Paris ) was a French politician. From 1958 to 1962 he was a member of the National Assembly .

Early life

Pinoteau went to school in Châteauroux and Poitiers before starting to study medicine and law in Paris. In medicine, he earned a doctorate and worked from 1935 as a doctor in a Paris hospital. In 1939 he was drafted into the military after the outbreak of World War II , where he also worked as a doctor. After his demobilization he was active again as a doctor and from 1946 also represented on the council of Paris hospitals. In addition, he became Secretary General of the Paris Medical Association in 1949.

Political career

As a supporter of the Center national des indépendants et paysans , Pinoteau entered politics with his election to the city council of Paris and the General Council of the Seine department in 1953. In the parliamentary elections in 1958 he stood for the CNI in the 30th constituency of the Seine department. With 43.6 percent of the vote, he was able to prevail against a communist and a Gaullist in the second round and thus made it into the National Assembly. From 1959 to 1960, in addition to his parliamentary activities, he was a member of the Community Senate, which was supposed to examine laws that affected both France and its colonies. During the same period he was Vice President of the Paris City Council. In the parliamentary elections in 1962 Pinoteau ran for re-election, but only came third in the first round behind the Gaullist Marc Saintout and the communist candidate with 24.2 percent. He voluntarily gave up his participation in the second round in order to enable the eventual election winner Saintout to win. Even if this ended his time in parliament, he then held other offices; from 1976 he was vice-president of the steering committee of the CNI and from 1979 vice-president of the former members of parliament. From 1981 he was honorary president of the international tourism association. Pinoteau, who died in 1986, was also the recipient of numerous orders and medals, including the Ordre des Palmes Académiques and an officer of the Legion of Honor .
