Rogier Telderman (* 1982 in Utrecht ) is a Dutch jazz musician ( piano , composition ).

Live and act

Telderman, who grew up in Brabant, has been playing the piano since he was ten years old. His father is the concert pianist André Telderman, his mother a sports teacher. At home he listened to a lot of classical music and attended concerts in this genre. After finishing school he studied industrial engineering in Eindhoven; also accompanied choirs and played in a big band, but did not improvise. It was only through a conversation with a friend that he discovered improvisation . At the age of 22 he attended the preparatory course at the Conservatory in Tilburg, where he then studied piano with Randal Corsen, Jeroen van Vliet , Frans van der Tak and Hans Eijsackers and never graduated as an engineer. During his piano studies Telderman was proclaimed Jazz Talent of the Year 2009 by Radio6 and was nominated for the Jacques de Leeuw Prize.

After graduating in 2009, he immediately received teaching positions and began to work with singers, moved into the field of cabaret and toured with theatrical performances. Telderman founded the Melphi quartet in 2010 with singer Lutte van Drunen, bassist Jurriaan Dekker and drummer Willem van der Krabben. He also directs the Rogier Telderman Trio and Rogier Telderman's Triptych . With his trio (which includes bassist Guus Bakker and drummer Tuur Moens), he released his first album Contours in 2015 . He also appears in other projects; so he is part of the formation Temko and forms a duo with the vibraphonist Vincent Houdijk. In 2020 he toured in a trio with Adam Bałdych and Vincent Courtois .

Teldermann teaches music theater at the Codarts Conservatory in Rotterdam.
