Jeroen van Vliet (born April 8, 1965 in Rosmalen ) is a Dutch jazz pianist , keyboardist and composer .

Live and act

Jeroen van Vliet studied piano with Willem Kühne and Bert van den Brink ; In 1991 he completed his studies at the Utrecht Conservatory of Music. During this time he worked in the Iris formation and with the groups of Paul van Kemenade and Eric van der Westen ; in the following years he played a. a. also with Bob Malach , Kenny Wheeler , John Zorn , Norma Winstone , Charlie Mariano and Erkan Oğur . In the 1990s he was part of the Contraband formation (with, among others, Theo Jörgensmann , Paul van Kemenade, Rutger van Otterloo , Eckard Koltermann , Eric van der Westen); with some of these musicians he formed the Impressionistic Improvisers Quartet in the following decade (record of the same name in 2007). He also performed with Dick de Graaf ( Mooving Target ). With Eric Vloeimans he played in the formation Gatecrash , which was awarded the Edison in 2007 . In 2006 van Vliet received the Carte Blanche to put together a formation in the Bimhuis ; the concert was broadcast on national radio. In the 2000s he worked with the band Estafest! (with Oene van Geel , Anton Goudsmit , Mete Erker), the sextet Sikeda and in his own trio (with Pascal Vermeer and Frans van der Hoeven , album The Poet & Other Tales ). Van Vliet composed for theater and dance groups; he was also commissioned to compose for the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2008 . He also accompanied the singers Ineke van Doorn, Kristina Fuchs and Simin Tander . In the field of jazz he was involved in 13 recording sessions between 1985 and 2010.

Prizes and awards

At the age of 19, Van Vliet received the Soloist Prize at the Middelsee Jazz Meeting in Leeuwarden , and three years later the Meervaart Jazzconcours in Amsterdam with the Iris group . In 2014 van Vliet was awarded the prestigious Boy Edgar Prize as an outstanding Dutch jazz musician.
