Emil Schiess

Emil Schiess (born April 18, 1894 in Trogen , † November 8, 1972 in Zihlschlacht ; resident in Trogen) was a Swiss educator , textile entrepreneur and cantonal councilor from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Emil Schiess was the son of Arnold Schiess and Marina Hugener. In 1932 he married Julita Habisreutinger, daughter of Adolf Habisreutinger.

Schiess first attended the Trogen Cantonal School . In 1915 he acquired the secondary teacher diploma and in 1919 the academic title of Doctor of Philosophy in Bern . From 1916 to 1920 he worked as a secondary teacher in Samedan and St. Gallen . From 1922 to 1937 he was a council clerk for the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden. In 1937 Schiess took over the management of his father-in-law textile company Habis Textil AG in Flawil , which he gradually expanded. From 1930 to 1934 he was a councilor in Herisau and from 1939 to 1945 in Flawil. He also worked as school president in both communities . Schiess sat from 1945 to 1948 for the liberal in the Grand Council of the Canton of St. Gallen . With donations he made the construction of the evangelical old people's home Flawil possible, foundations for teacher training at the Trogen Cantonal School and for needy primary school students in the Trogen community. Schiess held the military degree of colonel .
