Arnold Schiess

Arnold Schiess (* 13. May 1863 in Teufen AR ; † 15. June 1937 in Trogen ; heimatberechtigt ibid ) was a Swiss pedagogue and Councilor of the Canton of Appenzell Outer Rhodes .

Life

Arnold Schiess was the son of Johann Bartholome Scheuss, master baker , and Johanna Oertle. In 1887 he married Marina Hugener, daughter of Bartholome Hugener, landlord and master butcher . He married a second time in 1900 and took Johanna Hartmann, daughter of Susanna Hartmann, as his wife.

He attended the seminar in Kreuzlingen and then worked as an assistant teacher at the Thurgau boys' education institute in Emmishofen . Schiess worked as a primary school teacher in Trogen from 1886 to 1889 . From 1889 to 1919 he was head of the orphanage in Trogen. He worked from 1896 to 1923 as a teacher at the practice school he helped initiate. From 1919 to 1929 Schiess was a member of the canton's government (building and agriculture directorate) as a farmer's representative. He was also a member of the parish school commission, the aid society , the poor association, the church council and the synod . He was president of the Appenzell-Mittelland beekeeping association, an actuary of the cantonal agricultural association and a board member of the Swiss farmers' association .
