Rohinton Mistry

Rohinton Mistry (born July 3, 1952 in Bombay ) is a Canadian writer of Indian origin . Mistry belongs to the ethnic group of the Parsees who are followers of the doctrine of Zoroastrianism . His best known work is The Balance of the World .

Life

Mistry graduated from the University of Bombay with a BA in Mathematics and Economics in 1974 . In 1975 he emigrated with his wife to Toronto / Canada, worked in a bank in Toronto and completed his BA in English and Philosophy at the University of Toronto in 1982 . He published his first short story, One Sunday , in 1983.

He is the author of three novels, all of which have been nominated for prizes or have received awards: Such a Long Journey (1991), A Fine Balance (1996; German The Balance of the World ) and Family Matters (2002).

Rohinton Mistry lives in Ontario, Canada. His younger brother is the playwright and author Cyrus Mistry.
