history

The beginnings (2003-2004)

Rohstoff was founded in 2003 by Roland Almer, Helmut Hofer, Andreas Preininger and Wolfgang Rathgeb, whose paths already crossed with the band Silent Agony , and Peter Tödling. He was previously active as a guitarist in the band Form Faktor. On July 25, 2003, Rohstoff was heard live for the first time. In 2004 Wolfgang Rathgeb decided to quit because he wanted to focus on his second band Force . In his place, Andreas Markaritzer, who previously worked with Peter Tödling at Form Faktor, became the new drummer for the band Rohstoff.

The first two albums (2004-2014)

In the next ten years Rohstoff played over 70 concerts in Austria, Germany, Italy and Slovenia, including as support for well-known bands such as Soulfly , Megaherz , Eminence and Betzefer . In addition, two long-player CDs and an EP were released under the PH-Music label. On June 22, 2013, Rohstoff got a slot at the two-day See-Rock Festival, the biggest highlight in the band's history. On the same day, greats like Limp Bizkit , Slayer , Mnemic , Eisbrecher and Oomph! .

Raw material 2.0 (2014-2015)

In January 2014 both guitarists left the band independently of each other on the same day. After weeks of shock, it was decided to keep the band alive and to look for new members. The three remaining members quickly agreed that not two guitarists should be re-cast, but instead of the second guitar, a man on the samples. With Christoph Sommer alias Stoffl and Georg Pichler, two long-time companions of the local underground scene were found. Georg Pichler was previously the guitarist of the band Defiler , Christoph Sommer made a name for himself in the electro dance scene under the pseudonym TotesDeer .

Raw material undead (2015-2019)

After several appearances in Italy and Austria, the band split again in the summer of 2015. Andreas Markaritzer, Georg Pichler and Christoph Sommer left Rohstoff due to musical differences and subsequently formed a new independent project. The core of the band, Roland Almer and Andreas Preininger, started again with founding member Helmut Hofer after his two-year break. A new drummer has been hired in Richard Klösch, a longtime friend of Rohstoff. There were new appearances, in 2017 they want to go to the studio.

At the beginning of 2018, work began on the new EP called "Spuck es aus". The 4-song EP was initially only released electronically on April 19, 2019. Due to the great demand, the EP was also released on CD in early 2019.

Raw material (since 2019)

Due to insurmountable personal differences, Rohstoff had to part with the bassist and founding member Andreas Preininger. The new man on the 4-string became a former member of Watch Them Fail and Intoxxxicated from Mexico City. The COVID-19 crisis that prevailed at the beginning of 2020 slowed motivation slightly, but recording sessions are planned in the near future.
