Roi Alexandrowitsch Medvedev ( Russian Рой Александрович Медведев ; born November 14, 1925 in Tbilisi , Georgian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Soviet / Russian historian and politician.

Life

His father was a Political Commissar , was arrested during the Great Terror in 1938 and died in prison in 1941. Medvedev studied pedagogy and philosophy at the Leningrad State University . He was head of the educational publishing house and worked in teacher training in the Soviet Union. Medvedev has been working as a freelance writer since 1972. He later became a renowned critic of Stalinism . Between 1964 and 1970 he published the journal Političeskij dnevnik / Political diary.

Medvedev joined the CPSU during the de-Stalinization in 1956 and was expelled from it in 1969. In 1988 his exclusion was lifted. Medvedev rose to the Central Committee of the CPSU during the period of perestroika (1989-91).

After the collapse of the Soviet Union , Medvedev was considered one of the leaders of the movement for democratic socialism , from 1991 he was one of the leaders of the Socialist Party of the Working People of Russia (Социалистическая партия трудящихся Россиской Федер). He was a vehement opponent of the August putsch in 1991 and also of the regime of Boris Yeltsin . He dedicated several apologetic books to Vladimir Putin .

His twin brother was the biochemist and former Soviet dissident Shores Alexandrovich Medvedev, who died in 2018 .
