Roland Dopfer (* 1977 in Obergünzburg ) is a German organist , harpsichordist , church musician , music therapist , musicologist and university professor .

Career

Dopfer studied Catholic church music at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf and received a special award for his organ playing in the A-exam . Diploma courses in the subjects organ and harpsichord led him to the Cologne University of Music and Dance . His teachers included the organists Margareta Hürholz , Martha Schuster , Nigel Allcoat and the harpsichordist Gerald Hambitzer . After studying in the soloist class of Christoph Bossert at the Musikhochschule Trossingen , Dopfer passed his concert exam in the subject organ. A doctoral degree for Dr. phil. led Roland Dopfer to Hans-Joachim Erwe and Thomas Erlach at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal .

From 2005 to 2013 he was a church musician for the Archdiocese of Cologne , based at the Catholic church St. Laurentius in Wuppertal , in 2012 and 2013 lecturer for organ at the Cologne University of Music and Dance, from 2013 to 2018 Roland Dopfer lecturer and professor for the subjects of early music organ, basso continuo, organ literature playing and organ improvisation at the Bremen University of the Arts and organist at the Bremen inner city church for Our Lady .

Since 2016, Roland Dopfer has been a lecturer in the artistic main subject of organ at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media and since 2018 a music teacher, music therapist and organist at a psychotherapeutic institution in the canton of Zurich .

As an organist, harpsichord player and chamber musician, he has given concerts in Mexico, the USA, Oman, Spain, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Switzerland and Germany and gives courses in the areas of interpretation, continuo practice and improvisation. He makes music with the baroque violinist Claudia Hoffmann, the organist Margareta Hürholz and the early music ensemble Sir Moro. CD recordings were made for the ORGANUM CLASSICS label as well as television productions for ARD, ZDF and WDR (Germany) and IKON (Netherlands).
