Roland Kohlsaat

Roland Kohlsaat (born May 24, 1913 in Hamburg ; † February 1, 1978 in Hamburg-Bergedorf ) was a German comic artist, illustrator and author.

Life

After finishing secondary school, Roland Kohlsaat attended the arts and crafts school in Hamburg, where he was trained as a lithographer , painter and sculptor . In the 30s he earned his living drawing pictures of horses, portraits and landscapes. After he was called up as a soldier in the Second World War , he worked on an estate as a horse groom and painter after the war. A comic strip was created for the radio magazine Funkwacht for the first time in 1953, an adaptation of Erich Kästner's Emil und die Detektiven . After the paper was renamed TV , later after merging into TV Hören undsehen , further comics were created ( Plisch and Wisch and Tele Wischen ). He also designed the joke page for the magazine Das Neue Blatt .

In 1953 he was commissioned by the Illustrierte Stern to design a comic for their children's supplement Sternchen , which was to become his greatest success. The result was Jimmy the Rubber Horse (initially: Julio and Jimmy ), the longest-running comic series in German comic history, which was published until 1977.
