Roland Stig Stoltz (born August 14, 1954 in Överkalix ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player and coach who played for the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League from 1971 to 1989, among others .
Career
Roland Stoltz began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown at Overkalix IF , for which he was active in the then third-class Division 3 in the 1971/72 season . The attacker then spent three years at IFK Luleå in Division 2 . From 1975 to 1987 he was a regular at Skellefteå AIK from the Elitserien , the newly established highest Swedish professional hockey league. In the 1977/78 season he won the Swedish championship with Skellefteå . On June 5, 1981, the Swede signed a contract as a free agent with the Washington Capitals from the National Hockey League . For the team, however, he played only 14 NHL games in the 1981/82 season , in which he scored two goals and two assists before he returned to his home club Skellefteå AIK. In the 1987/88 season he was last for the Swedish third division team Malå IF on the ice, for which he played a game at the beginning of the following season before ending his active career at the age of 35.
As head coach, Stoltz worked several times for his home club Skellefteå AIK. He was in charge of this from 1988 to 1990, from 1995 to 1998 and most recently in the 2000/01 season.
International
For Sweden , Stoltz took part in the 1981 World Cup, where he won the silver medal with his team. He himself scored one goal and two assists in eight games.
