Roland Vaubel
Roland Vaubel (born January 5, 1948 in Obernburg am Main ) is a German economist . From 1984 to 2016 he taught economics and political economy at the University of Mannheim .
Life
Vaubel attended school in Wuppertal . He then studied law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at St Peter's College at the University of Oxford ( Bachelor of Arts , 1970). His teachers at Oxford included u. a. Sir Alec Cairncross . In 1972 he earned a Master of Arts in Economics from Columbia University in New York .
From 1973 to 1978 and from 1981 to 1984 he was a research assistant at the Institute for the World Economy at the University of Kiel (ifW). He was at the University of Kiel in 1977 when Herbert Giersch in the Department of Economics and Social Sciences with the thesis Strategies for currency unification: the economics of currency competition and the case for a European parallel currency to Dr. sc. pol. doctorate and in 1980 he completed his habilitation with the thesis International coordination versus competition of national stabilization policies . From 1979 to 1981 he was first associate professor and then full professor at the Erasmus University Rotterdam and finally visiting professor at the University of Chicago . In 1984 he received a call from the University of Mannheim , where he taught economics and political economy until his retirement in 2016 .
Vaubel was one of the signatories of the Euro-critical manifesto The Monetary Policy Decisions of Maastricht: A Danger for Europe (1992) and the Hamburg Appeal (2005). He was one of the 68 main illustrators of the 2013 election alternative . Vaubel was temporarily a member of the CDU, the FDP and the AfD as well as the AfD's scientific advisory board. Vaubel resigned his offices within the AfD in July 2015 and joined the Alliance for Progress and Awakening (today Liberal-Conservative Reformer ).
In May 2018, together with Dirk Meyer , Thomas Mayer and Gunther Schnabl , he initiated the appeal The euro must not lead to the liability union! This was supported by over a hundred economists.
