Roland Wawrzyniak

Roland Wawrzyniak (born January 12, 1952 ) is a former German football player. In the 1970s and 1980s he played for Halleschen FC Chemie in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football.

Athletic career

At the age of 14, Roland Wawrzyniak was accepted into the youth department of the soccer section of the SC Chemie Halle . In the 1970/71 season he played his first point games in the second-rate GDR league for the second team of Halleschen FC Chemie (HFC), which was spun off from SC Chemie in 1966. For the 1971/72 season he was included in the squad of the league team and played ten point games with her, he was also used in the team of HCF II. In May 1972, Wawrzyniak began 18 months of military service in the National People's Army . After its end, he returned to the HFC, whose first team had since been relegated to the GDR league. With ten point games Wawrzyniak was involved in the immediate recovery. While he had played all 26 league games as a defender in 1974/75, he was only used in 16 league games in the 1975/76 season. Then Wawrzyniak remained a regular in the Halle defense until 1980. After he failed the entire first half of the season in the 1980/81 season, he could no longer be used regularly later. In the four seasons between 1980 and 1984 Wawrzyniak played only 52 of the 104 league games played. In his last season in Halle, he was used again in 15 games in the league. He then ended his career in Halle, where he had completed 184 league games and 37 GDR league games for Halleschen FC Chemie. As a defensive player, he had only managed six goals in the league. Wawrzyniak continued his footballer career with GDR league club Chemie Wolfen and played a further 29 GDR league games in the 1984/85 season. Wolfen then relegated to the district league, and the 33-year-old Wawrzyniak did not return to the GDR-wide football leagues.
