Bell Motor Car Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in York , Pennsylvania in June 1915 . In 1916 the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Bell . The designer was Ernest T. Gilliard, who previously worked for the Pullman Motor Car Company and the Sphinx Motor Car Company . From 1918 the factory was used by Pullman. Production ended in 1922.

There was no connection to the Bell Motor Car Company of the same name from Michigan .

vehicles

All vehicles had purchased four-cylinder engines , initially from GB&S and Continental Motors Company and from 1919 from Herschell-Spillman . The vehicles were named after the year of construction or model year , i.e. Model 16 for 1916 etc.

Model 16 and Model 17 had a 20 hp engine. The wheelbase was 284 cm. Two-seat roadsters and five-seat touring cars were on offer .

For Model 18 and Model 19 , the engines were specified with 22.5 hp. The chassis now had a wheelbase of 290 cm. The roadster now offered space for four people, while the touring car remained unchanged.

Model 20 and Model 21 had a more powerful 36 hp engine. The wheelbase and the available superstructures remained the same.

A source names 1873 vehicles with annual distribution. Another source confirms 63 vehicles for 1921, but gives a total of 1933 vehicles.
