Rolf Funck

Rolf H. Funck (born February 7, 1930 in Soltau ; † August 24, 2015 in Karlsruhe ) was a German economist and professor of economics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).

Career

First, Funck completed an apprenticeship as a banker and from 1951 studied at the universities in Cologne and Münster . In 1957 the doctorate followed and in 1962 the habilitation. In 1963 he was finally given a chair for economics in Karlsruhe. A little later, in 1964, Funck founded the Institute for Economic Policy and Economic Research , which he also headed. Co-founder and temporarily chairman of the board of the inter-faculty institute for regional studies (1966) and the institute for applied cultural studies (1988). 1966–1998 member and temporarily chairman of the Transport Science group of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Federal Minister of Transport. Visiting professorships at several US universities and academies worldwide. In 1996, shortly before his retirement, he received an honorary doctorate from the Poznan University of Economics , Poland, and finally retired in 1998. Author and co-author, editor of numerous scientific publications, especially in the fields of transport and regional science and cultural economics. From 1975–1999 city councilor for the FDP Karlsruhe, since 1979 parliamentary group chairman. 1980–1994 member of the administrative board of the Badisches Staatstheater. In the 80s and 90s one of the initiators and main responsible for the concept development and implementation of the Center for Art and Media Technology (ZKM) in Karlsruhe.

  • 1989 founding member and from 1993 to 1999 chairman of the board of the Interfacultative Institute for Applied Cultural Studies at the University of Karlsruhe (TH) and from 2002 to 2009 member of the Board of Trustees of the successor institution ZAK Center for Applied Cultural Studies and General Studies at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)
  • Member of the Board of Trustees of the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe since it was founded in 1988
  • 1990 to 2004 member of the board of directors of Sparkasse Karlsruhe
