Rolf Haller (pharmacist)

Rolf Haller (born July 27, 1933 in Schwenningen ; † April 6, 1987 in Kiel ) was a German pharmacist whose specialty was stereochemistry . In this area he gave important impulses to pharmaceutical chemistry .

Life

After graduating from high school in Schwenningen, Haller studied natural sciences for two semesters at the University of Tübingen . He then became a pharmacist intern in Albbruck . In 1955 he began his pharmacy studies at the University of Freiburg . In 1962 he received his doctorate from this university. rer. nat. with the topic “Via heterocyclic substituted piperidonedicarboxylic acid esters”. Five years later, Haller completed his habilitation with the subject “on the stereochemistry of substituted cyclic ketones and the stereoselectivity of their reduction with complex metal hydrides” for pharmaceutical chemistry. In 1977 he was appointed professor at the Pharmaceutical Institute at Kiel University.

In addition to basic research on the subject of stereochemistry, he dealt with asymmetric syntheses, such as B. of theophylline derivatives, oxazixanopurine, β-blockers , analgesics of the methadone type. Haller published around 150 publications in total.
