Rolf Leue (* 1933 ) is a former German canoeist . He was multiple GDR champion.

Life

Leue lived in Magdeburg and took an early interest in canoeing. In 1948, when he was 15, he and his friend Otto Gandree , later also GDR champion, drove on the Elbe in an aluminum aircraft tank that had been converted into a boat and dropped from aircraft of the US Air Force during World War II . The construction sank near the monk's moat , but both occupants were able to escape unharmed.

In organized sports is Leue then operated in the Magdeburg district Fermersleben resident section canoeing the Sports Association Buckau-Wolf , the later BSG Stahl Magdeburg South and Southeast BSG Motor Magdeburg. Walter Rehkuh was the trainer . In 1950 he wanted to start together with Gandree in a two-man canoe at the GDR championships in Pirna . However, a self-built wooden boat was not permitted, probably because it was too light. Both athletes reached the finals with a rented boat.

At the GDR championship in 1951 in Leipzig , Leue and Gerhard Hölzke were GDR youth champions over 500 meters in a two-man kayak . In 1954, the two succeeded in winning the two-man canoe over 10,000 meters at the GDR championships in Berlin-Grünau . In 1955 Leue and Hölzke were able to win the GDR championship titles over 1,000 and 10,000 meters. The same was achieved in Neuruppin in 1956 .

Leue married the successful canoeist Sigrid Leue , née Schnabel. In 1958 his son Eckhard Leue was born, who later also became a successful canoeist. His grandchildren Friederike Leue and Erik Leue are also well-known canoeists.

Rolf Leue was part of his club's team in 1957 when it won the top class of GDR canoe racing, the ten-man Canadians over 1,000 meters during the GDR championship. Together with Hölzke, he also won the title in the two-man canoe over 1,000 meters. In 1958, the Leue / Hölzke team again won the championship title in the 1,000 and 10,000 meters. In 1959 and 1960 both only achieved second place over 1,000 meters.
