Rolf Schönstedt
Rolf Schönstedt (born May 18, 1944 in Erfurt ) is a German church musician , professor and former university rector . He is the son of Arno Schönstedt , who was organist and cantor at Herford Cathedral .
He attended the Friedrichs-Gymnasium Herford and passed the Abitur there in 1963. After studying church music until 1969 and taking the artistic maturity examination (1973) and the concert exam ( 1974), he initially worked for church musicians in Remscheid, Wuppertal-Elberfeld and Hamm (Westphalia), then as church music director and regional church music director in the Protestant Regional Church of Westphalia. In 1975 he founded the international Max Reger Festival in Hamm. In 1994 he became rector of the College for Church Music of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia in Herford . In 2003 he was awarded a doctorate degree at the Chemnitz University of Technology with a thesis on "The Organ Song - A New Genre on the Threshold of the 20th Century". phil. PhD. In mid-2007 he retired.
He published several sheet music editions as well as several CD recordings. He was a board member of the International Max Reger Society and has been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit .
