Arno Schönstedt
Arno Schönstedt (born September 12, 1913 in Sondershausen ; † December 3, 2002 in Herford ) was a German organist .
Schönstedt studied between 1934 and 38 with Günther Ramin and Johann Nepomuk David , then with Karl Straube and Fritz Heitmann . In 1945 he became organist at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig. In 1947 he was one of the founders of the Westfälische Landeskirchenmusikschule (today the College for Church Music of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia ) in Herford , where he taught as a lecturer - since 1974 as a professor. Schönstedt was the organist at Herford Minster for over 20 years and was particularly committed to the work of Hugo Distler . He was also a sought-after organ expert for the new construction of a number of Westphalian organs between 1945 and 1960.
Arno Schönstedt is the father of the organist Rolf Schönstedt .
