Luisa Niemesch (born September 7, 1995 ) is a German wrestler . She is two-time vice world champion in the junior division and won bronze medals at the U23 European Championships in 2017 and at the U23 World Championships in 2018

Career

First successes

Luisa Niemesch started wrestling at the age of seven. She is a member of SV Germania 04 Weingarten and trains in her home club and in the Olympic base in Freiburg im Breisgau. Your trainers were and are Mario Sachs, Frank Heinzelbecker and Patrick Loes.

In 2008 she took 3rd place in the German youth championship in the weight class up to 34 kg and thus won her first medal at a German championship.

National championships

In the further course of her career, she won several medals at German championships in the youth field. In 2011 she was the first German champion in the youth division in the weight class up to 49 kg. In 2012 she had to settle for 2nd place, but in 2013 she was able to become the German women's champion for the first time. She repeated this success in 2014 and 2015 in the weight class up to 58 kg body weight.

International career

She made her debut on the international wrestling mat in August 2011 at the European Junior Championships (age group Cadets) in Warsaw in the weight class up to 49 kg. She won a bronze medal straight away . In the same age group she won a bronze medal again in July 2012 at the European Championships in Katowice in the weight class up to 52 kg. A month later she was even more successful at the Junior World Championships (Cadets) in Baku, where she was runner-up in the weight category up to 52 kg behind Japanese Maya Mukaida.

In 2013 Luisa Niemesch was unable to fully build on these successes. In March 2013 she started in Tbilisi for the first time at the European Women's Championship. In the weight class up to 59 kg she won against Georgiana Narcisa Filip from Romania, but then lost to Hafize Sahin from Turkey and came in 7th place. At the European Junior Championships in Skopje she won in the weight class up to 59 kg over Ayda Erdal-Delen from Turkey, but then lost to Maya Christowa from Bulgaria and reached 9th place. She achieved a very good 5th place at the Junior World Championship 2013 in Sofia. She won there in the weight class up to 59 kg over Alejandra Romero Bailla from Argentina and Nellja Gjulnasarjan from Kazakhstan, then lost to Braxton Rei Stone-Papadopoulos from Canada and in the battle for a bronze medal also against Ausuulu A Tinibekowa from Kyrgyzstan.

In 2014 she competed in three international championships. At the European Championships in Vantaa she came in the weight class up to 58 kg on a good 5th place, where she lost the fight for a bronze medal against Petra Olli from Finland. At the Junior European Championships in Katowice she came in 7th place in the weight class up to 59 kg. At the Junior World Championship in Zagreb in August 2014, she celebrated another great success. She was runner-up in the same weight class with victories over Sabrina Seidl, Austria, Patricia Liuzzi, Italy, Kayla Miracle, United States and Kriszta Tunde, Romania and a defeat in the final against Risako Kawai from Japan.

In 2015 she took part in her first World Seniors Championship in Las Vegas. There she lost in qualifying against the Norwegian Grace Jacob Bullen and was eliminated because the Norwegian did not reach the final. In the end, she finished in 19th place. On the other hand, she was more successful at the 2015 Junior World Cup in Salvador da Bahia in Brazil, where she came in 7th place.

In 2016 Luisa Niemesch took a good 5th place in the weight class up to 58 kg at the European Championships in Riga. Shortly thereafter, she won the Olympic qualification tournament in Ulaan-Baatar in the weight class up to 58 kg with a 2nd place to start at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. In Rio, however, she had no luck in the same weight class. She lost there in her first fight against the Russian Valerija Scholobowa Koblowa. Luisa Niemesch who reached the final was able to wrestle further in the consolation round, but lost there immediately against the Mongolian Orkhon Purevdorj, with which she was eliminated and only finished 20th.

In March 2017 Luisa Niemesch won a bronze medal at the U23 European Championship in Szombathely, Hungary in the weight class up to 58 kg. On the way to this she won over Derya Bayhan from Turkey, then lost to Elin Nilsson from Sweden and won over Ronja Marlen Buroe from Norway. At the 2017 World Championships in Paris, she lost in the weight class up to 60 kg against the American Allisson Mackenzie Ragan, but was able to continue wrestling in the consolation round, where she won over the Hungarian Gabriell Sleisz. In the battle for the bronze medal, however, she lost to the experienced Latvian Anastasija Grigorjewa and came in 5th place.

In 2018 Luisa Niemesch always won a medal in four consecutive international tournaments in the weight class up to 62 kg. At the world championship this year it did not work out so well, because she lost in Budapest against the experienced former world champion from Ukraine Julia Tkach-Ostaptschuk with 2: 3 points. However, this did not reach the final, which is why Luisa Niemesch had to retire and only took 15th place. So her new medal win at the U23 World Cup in November 2018 in Bucharest was all the more gratifying. She won there over Devi Pooja, India, Olivia Henningsson, Sweden and Aurora Campagna, Italy, lost to Ilona Prokopevniuk from Ukraine, but won a bronze medal with a 6: 3 point victory over the strong American Kayla-Colleen Miracle .

Private

She attended the Thomas-Mann-Gymnasium Stutensee, where she graduated from high school in 2013. She has been a student ever since.
