In 2015 she became vice world champion in the weight class up to 58 kg and in 2016 European champion in the weight class up to 60 kg body weight. In 2018 she became European champion again and finally also world champion in the weight class up to 65 kg body weight

Career

Petra Olli started wrestling in 2002. She is a member of the Lappajärven Veikot sports club and was trained by Pertti Olli from 2002 and Ahto Raska from 2008. Other trainers she worked with are Janne Myllyperkiö, Hannu Overmark and Vesa Alanen. In her early teens she also did athletics and cross-country skiing and played basketball. She was thereby u. a. even Finnish youth champion in javelin throwing. Since 2009 she has been devoting herself exclusively to wrestling.

In 2009 Petra Olli started for the first time in an international championship, the Junior European Championship (Cadets) in Zrenjanin. In the weight category up to 46 kg, she took 3rd place behind Jessica Blaszka from the Netherlands and Nina Hemmer from Germany. Including this championship, it started in a total of twelve international championships in the youth field until 2015 (Junior European Championships (Cadets and Juniors), Junior World Championships (Cadets and Juniors), Youth Olympic Games (Cadets) and U23 European Championships). It won medals at all championships. She won the title at the Junior European Championship 2011 (Juniors), the Junior European Championship 2012 (Juniors), the Junior European Championship 2013 (Juniors), the Junior European Championship 2014 (Juniors) and the U23 European Championship 2015.

In March 2012 she started for the first time in an international championship for senior women. She finished in Belgrade in the weight class up to 55 kg after victories over Valentina Minguzzi from Italy and Nadine Tokar from Switzerland and a defeat against Ana Maria Pavăl from Romania only 7th place. She then tried to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London at two Olympic qualification tournaments in Sofia and Helsinki. With a 5th place and a 3rd place, she did not succeed.

In April 2014 Petra Olli then won the European Championships in Vantaa / Finland in the weight category up to 58 kg after victories over Katarzyna Michalak from Poland and the ex-world champion Marianna Sastin from Hungary, a defeat against Valerija Sergejewna Scholobowa from Russia and a victory over Luisa Niemesch from Germany won the bronze medal, her first medal at an international championship in the senior sector. In September 2014 she started at the World Championships in Tashkent in the weight class up to 60 kg, where she defeated Luo Xiaojuan from China and Sakshi Malik from India. Then she lost to Tserenchimed Sukhee from Mongolia and Natalja Golz from Russia and took 5th place.

Petra Olli defeated Wiktoria Bobewa from Bulgaria, Giedre Blekaityte from Lithuania, Oksana Herhel from Ukraine and Swetlana Lipatowa from Russia when she won the title at the U23 European Championships in Wałbrzych in 2015 in the weight category up to 60 kg . In June 2015 she suffered a first setback in her successful career at the 1st European Games in Baku in the weight class up to 63 kg. She was defeated there against Valerija Lasinskaja from Russia and against Anastasija Grigorjeva from Latvia and only came in 14th place. But already at the 2015 World Championships in Las Vegas she ironed out this gap and was in the weight class up to 58 kg with victories over Aisuluu A Tinibekowa, Kyrgyzstan, Michelle Fazzari, Canada, Johanna Mattsson , Sweden and Julija Ratkewitsch , Azerbaijan and one defeat in the final against Kaori Icho from Japan vice world champion. This 2nd place entitled her to start at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio den Janeiro.

Before that, however, the 2016 European Championship was held in Riga in 2016, where Petra Olli won her first senior title at an international championship in the weight class up to 60 kg. On the way to this success she defeated Gabriella Sleisz from Hungary, Julia Pronzewitsch from Russia and last year's world champion Oksana Herhel from Ukraine. At the Olympic Games in Rio she stayed in the weight class up to 58 kg without winning a medal. She first came to a victory in Rio over Ohuwafunmilayo Adeniyi Aminat, Nigaria, but then lost to Ausuluu A Tinibekowa from Kyrgyzstan, was eliminated and only came in 10th place. A disappointment for you.

In 2017 Petra Olli was U23 European Champion in Szombathely in the weight class up to 63 kg. In the final, she defeated Adela Hanzlickova from the Czech Republic. She disappointed at the U23 World Cup in Bydgoszcz, Poland, because she lost to Braxton Rei Stone from Canada and Luzie Manzke from Germany and ended up in 10th place. She was not at the start at the European Championship and the World Championship for Senior Women.

In 2018 she won three European championships in Kaspiisk in the weight class up to 65 kg. In October 2018, Petra Olli achieved the greatest success of her career so far at the World Championships in Budapest. In the weight class up to 65 kg she became world champion with four wins. She had to pass tough tests against strong opponents, especially in the semi-finals and the final. In the semifinals she defeated Ayana Gempei from Japan with a tie in the front 6: 6 in the last standings and in the final she won over the Canadian Danielle Lappage with 6: 5 points.

In the following years Petra Olli was prevented from reaching her full potential due to bad luck with injuries. In 2019 she won a bronze medal at the European Women's Championships in Bucharest in the weight category up to 65 kg, which she won after defeating Elis Manolowa in the semi-finals by defeating Henna Johansson from Sweden.

In February 2020 she started again in the weight class up to 65 kg at the European Championships in Rome. She lost both fights that she played there and finished in 5th place.

Shortly afterwards she announced her resignation.
