Rolf C. Wilhelm Stödter (born April 22, 1909 in Hamburg , † April 24, 1993 in Wentorf near Hamburg ) was a German lawyer and shipowner as well as managing director of the Association of German Shipowners . Since 1964 he was married to the lawyer Helga Stödter (née Kloninger), with whom he had three daughters.

education

Rolf Stödter put his Abitur at the Heinrich Hertz High School in Hamburg and studied in Freiburg , Geneva , Munich and Hamburg law . After completing his legal traineeship in 1931, he did his doctorate with Kurt Perels in 1933. Two years later, Stödter finished his studies in Hamburg with the Great State Examination and in 1936 did his habilitation at the University of Hamburg. He passed all exams summa cum laude .

Professional background

From 1936 Stödter initially worked as a private lecturer and from 1937 began working as a manager at the Association of German Shipowners. In the following year he became its chief executive.

Released from military service during the Second World War, Stödter was appointed associate professor in the Faculty of State and Law in 1943. He lectured on constitutional, administrative and international law at Hamburg University. One focus of his work was on questions of shipping law.

Stödter, who had joined the SA in 1933 and the NSDAP in the course of the transfer of power to the National Socialists , was a shop steward for foreign issues at the NS-Lecturer Association. Immediately after the Second World War, Stödter resigned from his position as professor at his request, but then continued to belong to the faculty as an associate professor.

In the first post-war years, Stödter worked on the part of the shipowners to rebuild the German merchant fleet. In 1955 he became a partner in the John T. Essberger shipping company . It was not until the early 1980s that he withdrew completely from the day-to-day business of the shipping company, but continued to work in numerous offices.

Rolf Stödter was buried in the Ohlsdorf cemetery in Hamburg, grid square M 14 (south of Cordesallee , west of Ringstrasse ).
