Rolf Stucky

Rolf Andreas Stucky (born September 12, 1942 in Bern ) is a Swiss classical archaeologist .

Rolf Stucky received his doctorate in 1969 at the University of Bern with Hans Jucker with the thesis The engraved Tridacna shells , followed in 1977 by his habilitation, after which he was a private lecturer at the University of Bern. A year later, he succeeded Karl Schefold as full professor at the University of Basel . From 1980 to 2008 he was a member of the editorial team of the magazine Antike Kunst . In 2007 he retired and was succeeded by Martin Guggisberg .

Stucky carried out excavations in Tell el Hajj in Syria , in Ugarit / Ras Shamra and Sidon in Lebanon . He published around 15 monographs and catalogs, as well as several dozen articles and reviews in magazines.

He is married to the art historian Monica Stucky-Schürer , his daughter is the actress Bettina Stucky .
