Rolinha Kross
Rolinha Kross (* 1961 ) is a Dutch singer .
Life
She is descended from a Jewish - Czech mother and Surinamese father. As a child, she was fascinated by Eastern European music and the Yiddish language. Early on she performed with various groups, including a. with her mother, Ilona Cechova , as Duo Sense . She also studied jazz singing / light music at the Hilversum Conservatory and Amsterdam .
Immediately after completing her academic training, she started a tour with the musical You're the Top , with Willem Nijholt in the lead role. In the meantime she has worked with Burton Greene's Klezmokum , Solomon Klezmorim and jazz ensembles. The album Klezmer Tsigayner was recorded with the Rolinha Kross Trio, which included Bokkie Vink and Theo van Tol ; there followed appearances and a. in Canada and Curacao .
She then went on tour with Ramses Shaffy in Dutch and Belgian theaters and with an Ira Gershwin production with Ernst Daniël Smid , Mathilde Santing and Denise Jannah . Then she became a member of the Klezmer group Mazzeltov . She has also given concerts with this group at home and abroad and recorded four albums. Rolinha also performed three times with Mazzeltov at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
Rolinha plays in the musical show Iberia , which she developed with Perry Dossett . With guitarist Harold Berghuis she creates a program of Yiddish poetry with her music (translated by Willy Brill ). She was a guest on Frank's show in person with jazz standards . With the Ensemble Balqana she presents a more Balkan- oriented program. The Rolinha Kross Quartet focuses on Dutch texts and gipsy jazz . She also organizes singing workshops, is the speaker in commercials and comments on documentaries.
