Rolling Pin is a German-language trade magazine and job portal for the catering and hotel industry .

History and frequency of publication

According to the company, Rolling Pin is one of the largest hotel and catering magazines in German-speaking countries. The term rolling pin is the English word for rolling pin . The focus is on topics and content for professionals in the upscale gastronomy, hotel and cruise industries. In each issue there is an extensive career section with job advertisements, which are also listed on the Internet portal www.rollingpin.com. In addition to magazine, job portal and online reporting, Rolling Pin is best known as the organizer of numerous events for employees in the catering and hotel industry.

The magazine was founded by Gunther Kiem (1949–2007) and first published in August 2003. Rolling Pin Media GmbH is the publisher. Jürgen Pichler is the managing partner. The publishing house is in Graz, Austria. The publishing house was founded in 2003.

The magazine was published 16 times a year until December 2018, since January 2019 the magazine has been published monthly, i.e. 12 times a year, and has a volume of 116 to 240 pages. It is sold in Germany , Austria , Switzerland and South Tyrol and has an average circulation of 28,000 (according to the publisher).

style

The magazine appears in high gloss . Each issue consists of specialist editorial articles about the world of gastronomy and the hotel industry, food and beverage reports, portraits of well-known figures in the industry, tips and tricks for applicants and employers. as well as a large part of job advertisements

Events

Rolling Pin is the organizer of a food symposium in Austria, the Chefdays . Renowned chefs appear here in front of a specialist audience. Previous guests have included the Italian 3-star chef Massimo Bottura , Virgilio Martinez , the Spaniard Joan Roca , Austrian chefs such as Heinz Reitbauer and Andreas Döllerer and chef of the century Eckart Witzigmann . The event has also been held in Germany (Berlin) since 2017.

Every year Rolling Pin also honors the most innovative and creative employees and entrepreneurs in the catering and hotel industries. Under the title Rolling Pin Awards , employees in the catering industry can nominate favorites and then vote for the most frequently nominated employees ( sommelier , mâitre , sous chef , bartender ...). The winners, one award each for Austria and Germany, are honored at a gala every year.

Since 2005, Rolling Pin has also been the organizer of the Junge Wilde , a trend cooking competition. The winner of the competition initiated jointly with TV chef Stefan Marquard will receive a Rolling Pin cover story and an internship with a top international chef.
